I'd like to go back to the classics...

Whilst trying to get together a mix for the New Year, it's struck me that it's been a while since I really liked any new track or remix. They all seem tired or extremely noisy! Getting old? I suppose so.

Luckily, I got this wonderful USB turntable for my XXth birthday, and am currently trawling through my vinyl (9 boxes!) and recording some stuff that I've missed. With the help of Amadeus Pro and ClickRepair I'm cleaning the mold off them (the cellar's very damp), getting the scratches cleaned up, and archiving them for eternity.

Yep, an eternity of 90s house music. Hurrah!

Anyway, here's a taste of what I'm loving at the moment: Renee Silvers - "Rumors". This was one of the very first remixes I ever heard by Johnny Vicious, a genius who produced some classic stuff before selling his soul to the devil: he is currently producing... ugh, don't make me say it... trance.

Anyway, this was the track that turned me on to his stuff back in 1994. It stills sounds quite strange, like two tracks that don't quite go together, stuck on top of one another. I may be the last person on earth who still likes this stuff... or maybe not: strangely, the 12" is still available to order here.

Me and the crack'd mirror

Nothing to do with the previous close-up shot of me, obviously.
Whilst sorting through some tracks (to make a best of 2007 mix), I came across something I had prepared as the first track of my mix at a friend's wedding. It's some dialogue from The Mirror Crack'd, a 1980 film of the Agatha Christie book, which includes Elizabeth Taylor in love with a character called Jason... played by Rock Hudson! Hamming it up with them are Kim Novak and Tony Curtis. A veritable campfest.

Anyway, here's the clip. Have a listen! It took me quite a few hours to watch the film, find the dialogue, and put it all together. When I played the fruit of my efforts, nobody took the slightest bit of notice.

If you want to see a scene from the film, try this; Elizabeth Taylor in the world's most ridiculous hat.

This is why Photoshop was invented

I've decided that all photos of myself from now on must be Photoshopped to death before official release. I'm sure you understand why...

Prague!

It was our 15-year anniversary this weekend, and Alain surprised me with a luxury weekend. Well, I knew we were going away, but I didn't know where until we were on the train on the way to the airport.

I would never have guessed Prague! He'd really organised everything wonderfully; chauffeur pick-up from the airport, designer hotel, junior suite with surround sound (yes!), champagne on ice in the room, wonderful restaurants all reserved... He's a star.

You can check out all the photos here. I had an unforgettable time. Thanks Alain. I love you so much.

Sex and the City movie trailer

OK, I know this is gayer than a diamond-studded rainbow flag singing showtunes, but I have fond memories of Sex and the City, and all the women that stay at our flat demand to watch the DVDs, so I was pleased to come across the teaser today (see below).

Hope the writing's good though, otherwise it could be kinda dull. In any case, with no dialogue to speak of, the teaser's not giving much away...

You can check out the HD versions of the teaser here.
